Local Lethbridge farms are opening their barn doors to the public once again to give Albertans a glimpse into the life of a local producer on August 13-14, 2022.
Every year, farms around the province open their gates, barn doors, and pens to the public for a weekend of fun on farms. Alberta Open Farm Days has been a longstanding tradition in the heart of Canada's premier food corridor, with some local Lethbridge farms participating in the fun! Those farms also happen to be producers on our Canada's Food Tours!
Two local producers participating from just outside Lethbridge have been putting delicious and fresh produce on the tables of Lethbridge Families for years. Now, Albertans from all over do more than only enjoy the produce! The farms are none other than Broxburn Vegetables and Café and Crystal Springs Cheese! Families and travellers can expect exciting opportunities at both farms where they can learn about how agriculture influences and sustains us in Southern Alberta! Here's what to expect at each farm:
Broxburn Vegetables and Café
At Broxburn, there's much more to offer than just a field of delicious green veggies! From the greenhouse tours to the hay bail rides and the Strawberry u-pick, there's a whole meal to see before you even step foot in the café! With their inclusion in Alberta Open Farm Days, they offer a special select menu that isn't available any other time of the year. Like usual, though, they use fresh produce in every option.
Crystal Springs Cheese
Crystal Springs Cheese is cheesy in the best kind of way on Alberta Open Farm Days. Offering Live cheese-making demonstrations shows early birds how involved cheese making is and answers age-old questions about old cheese! The fun doesn't stop there; once the cheese making is over, there will still be tours of the cheese plant, cheese and wine tastings, milking parlour tours, and a small petting zoo!
They will also have free ice cream and food trucks ready to keep stomachs full while everyone enjoys their time on the farm! Crystal springs will also be operating its on-site café as usual for those who want to pick up some cheese on their way out!
Make sure you make your way out to one of these local farms on August 13-14 to experience Alberta Open Farms days and see where your food originates! If you can't make it out to one of these local farms, don't worry; we have a way for you to experience the magic of Southern Alberta Agri-food still!
With Canada's food tours, we've created accessible self-drive tours of local producers and restaurants carrying their products so you can see where your food comes from and taste Southern Alberta's magic! Located in the heart of Canada's premier food corridor, you can experience fresh food like never before, with meals made entirely from ingredients grown less than 15 minutes away!
