Alberta Open Farm Days 2024

Local Lethbridge farms are once again opening their barn doors on August 17th—18th, 2024, to give Albertans a glimpse into the life of a local producer! 

Every year, farmers around the province open their gates, barn doors, and pens to the public for a weekend of fun on their farms. Alberta Open Farm Days has been a longstanding tradition in the heart of Canada's Premier Food Corridor. This year, the event returns with the theme of "The Year of the Alpaca."

The Lilac Row

The Lilac Row will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM on August 18th for Open Farm Days. The Lilac Row is here to help facilitate beautiful bouquets of bright and floral flowers to decorate your home. During Open Farm Days, you can learn about cut flower production processes and the challenges and triumphs of operating a business like The Lilac Row in Southern Alberta!

Garden tours will be at the top of every hour starting at 10 AM. Guests are also invited to purchase some pre-arranged bouquets or come to enjoy some conversation almost beautiful blooms, Blossoming, fun, and unlike anything else you can find in Southern Alberta during Open Farm Days, you don't want to miss a chance to visit The Lilac Row during Alberta Open Farm Days!

Farming Smarter

Farming Smarter is excited to invite everyone to come and participate in a scavenger hunt for a chance to win prizes or enjoy the Gentle Giants Petting Zoo! Explore the booths and find out how a farmer might solve their problems on the farm! 

You can also expect to explore different crop plots on the Farming Smarter farm to learn more about agricultural innovations growing in Southern Alberta! There will also be a wide variety of equipment and things to learn about life as a problem-solving farmer! Think smarter with Farming Smarter on Alberta Open Farm Days!

Broxburn Vegetables & Café

At Broxburn, there's much more to offer than just a field of delicious green veggies! From the greenhouse tours at 11 AM & 1 PM and hay bale rides for $3 between 10 AM and 3 PM, you can also head out to the Strawberry and raspberry u-pick from 8 AM to 5 PM!

The café will also be open for breakfast from 10 AM  to noon and lunch from 11 AM to 3 PM. They use fresh produce in every option, so there's something delicious and fresh every day in the Broxburn Vegetables Café! 

The Venue of New Hope

After joining Open Farm Days during their first year of operation last year, The Venue of New Hope is opening their doors once again for Alberta Open Farm Days! Located just outside of the city, this farm can be booked for many different types of events. Visitors to The Venue of New Hope during Alberta Open Farms Days will get their Starter pack of red wiggler worms and instructions on creating their own vermicomposting garden at home! Take this opportunity to browse the newly finished event spaces where you can host future meetings, weddings, and other events.

Coaldale & District Agricultural Society

Coaldale & District Agricultural Society has a full day of activities in their itinerary for Alberta Open Farm Days this year! Join the Coaldale & District Agricultural Society as they visit five different farms and explain the different operations and their agricultural importance at each! While this one does come with a fee, it's a full-day experience you'll never forget. The fee for the bus also covers lunch! The tour starts at 9:30 AM and ends around 4:30 PM.

Crystal Springs Cheese

Crystal Springs Cheese is cheesy in the best way when they open their doors on Alberta Open Farm Days. Crystal Springs Cheese will offer live cheese-making demonstrations and cheese plant and farm tours. The fun doesn't stop there; once the cheese-making is over, there will still be tasting events throughout the day! Crystal Springs Cheese will also operate its on-site café as usual for those who want to pick up some cheese on their way out!

Windy Rafters Barn

Having been in the same hands of the Orr Family for six generations this isn’t the first Open Farm Days for the Windy Rafters Barn! Festivities will feature a blacksmithing demonstration, a hands-on (fake) cow milking experience, rope-making demonstrations, elastic rifle target shooting, and much more! Windy Rafter’s Barn is excited to see everyone who blows in during Alberta Open Farm Days! 

Prairie Hill Farms

Prairie Hill Farms will once again be opening their doors to the public for Alberta Open Farm days for the first time this year! They will be offering berry field tours every hour starting at 9 am on august 17th 2024. Prairie Hill Farms will also have a bouncy castle on sites and a colour station to keep little agricultural enthusiasts entertained. Food trucks will also be there to keep appetites at bay during Alberta Open farm day at Prairie Hill Farms August 17th 2024

K3 Seeds

K3 Seeds is excited to invite you to their land for Open Farm Days, a look behind the scenes at what it takes to be an Alberta beef producer and pedigreed seed provider!

K3 Seeds will offer a free walking tour this year through its Feedlot, feed mills, and seed plant, with tours starting every 15 – 20 minutes. As part of the fun, they will also have a free barbecue lunch from 1 - 3 PM, live music, a petting zoo, and prizes and giveaways!

K3 Seeds is located 30 minutes North of Lethbridge. The farm is 5 miles East of Picture Butte on Hwy 519, 1/4 mile North of Range Road 20-3; the Feedlot is on the East Side. This family-owned full-service pedigreed seed provider in Southern Alberta can’t wait to see you during Open Farm Days!

Little Gem Winery

After an incredible first year for 2023, Little Gem Winery opens its doors once again for Alberta Open Farm Days 2024! After opening a stylish wine-tasting room last summer as a beautiful addition to the winery’s elegant operations, Little Gem Winery is the perfect place to get a glass full of the finest wine you can find in Alberta!

With wine made from haskap berries grown on the same land you’ll be tasting on, the Little Gem Winery tasting room is a stop on Open Farm Days this year that you don’t want to miss! Enjoy a tour of the whole operation with complimentary wine paired with local cheeses for tasting at the end!

Shipwheel Cattle Feeders

With a 5500-head feedlot, there is more than enough to see on Saturday, August 17th, when Shipwheel Cattle Feeders opens their doors for Alberta Open Farm Days! Enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides and activities through the farm, where you can win prizes and learn about the machinery and technology used in raising cattle! Just don’t forget to bring a cooler if you plan to bring some of their delicious beef home on August 17th during Alberta Open Farm Days!

The Fermentory inside of Herbal Apothecary

The Fermentory is joining Alberta Open Farm Days this year to teach Albertans all about fermentation farming, including a Q&A and free samples! This is the perfect opportunity to learn all about the many kinds of fermentation farming, as well as the many ways that fermentation can help the body! Plus, find out about what the Fermentory is planning! Don’t miss this chance to learn all about fermentation farming in Alberta during Alberta Open Farm Days!

Theoretically Brewing

Theoretically Brewing Company is a local brewery in Lethbridge that focuses on dialing in deliciousness with a scientific level of accuracy. Operating within Lethbridge city limits, they brew drinks and put them in cans for everyone in Albert to enjoy. Join Theoretically Brewing Company on Saturday, August 17th, for Alberta Open Farm Days!

Canadian Co-Operative of Wool Growers Ltd.

This year, the Canadian Co-Operative of Wool Growers Ltd. is opening its doors from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, August 17th, to give Albertans a chance to learn all about wool! Albertans can learn all about how wool is shipped for export, speak with local sheep farmers, and learn about the process of processing and grading wool, as well as watch spinning and weaving demonstrations.

Not to mention the chance to see lambs, an adorable opportunity that’s hard to pass up! Don’t miss your opportunity to learn all about the Canadian Co-operative of Wool Growers Ltd. During Alberta Open Farm Days!

Spud Day at The Perry Family Farm

After you've seen some of the incredible offerings that are part of Alberta Open Farm Days, you can head over to the Perry Family Farm, where you can pick yourself 20 pound of potatoes for free, so long as you bring your own box to take them home in!
