Snuggled between coulees and a sprawling 200-acre nature preserve, Helen Schuler Nature Centre is located directly beneath the iconic High Level Bridge. A stone’s throw away from downtown, Helen Schuler is a great spot for a midday escape to a quiet slice of untouched nature.

Every year, the centre hosts up to six indoor and outdoor exhibits, including artist showcases, interactive displays – even live local flora and fauna.

For the Nature Centre’s current exhibits, check out their Plan a Visit page!

Interpretive Trails

The centre acts as something of a trailhead for the 200-kilometre network of pathways (carved out by both humans and wildlife) within the preserve. After visiting the Nature Centre, stretch your legs in the surrounding four distinct ecosystems, including:

  • Prairies

  • Coulees

  • Cottonwood forest

  • Natural floodplain

You may even meet some deer, a weasel or an owl along the way!

The Nature Centre also offers three guided tours focused on local birds, mammals or the beautiful Cottonwood forest along the river bottom.

At 3rd Ave. and Scenic Dr. S., turn west into the coulees (aka, the river valley). When you reach the bottom of the valley, take your first right onto Indian Battle Road. Continue straight, crossing under the High Level Bridge where you’ll come to the centre’s parking lot.
