The City Route follows Alberta's Highway 2 — the Queen Elizabeth II Highway — north. It is the quickest path through Alberta from the lower 48 to Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, Canada.

After exploring Lethbridge, take Highway 3 to Fort Macleod, then continue north to Calgary on Highway 2. This major north-south highway is a part of the CANAMEX Corridor. From Calgary — home of the world famous Calgary Stampede — to Edmonton — Alberta's provincial capital — Highway 2 will connect you quickly to the Alaska Highway.

Calgary is Alberta's largest city with the Calgary Zoo, Calaway Park, and Heritage Historical Park, Calgary has plenty of sun for everyone! Passing through at the beginning of July? Make sure to grab tickets for World's Greatest Outdoor Show — the Calgary Stampede!
Just off of Highway 2 outside of Red Deer you'll find the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.
If you're heading up to Alaska from the end of July to October you'll find Kraay Family Farm just West of Lacombe!

Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump
Perhaps the most uniquely named attraction in Canada, Head-Smashed-In-Buffalo-Jump spans 6000 years of southern Alberta history. Built right into the side of the Porcupine Hills, the museum’s design won the Governor General’s Gold Medal for Architecture in 1990. The museum serves as a reminder of the deep intertwining of Indigenous culture and the earth.
Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park
With thousands of preserved rock-art drawings dating back to 1050 B.C., Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park features the highest concentration of petroglyphs and pictographs in the world. Nowhere else in the world can you find anything quite like this, so what are you waiting for?
Waterton Lakes National Park
While less trafficked than Banff or Jasper, Waterton is equally (if not more) astounding; just as the path less travelled usually is. This Unesco World Heritage Site boasts some of the best hikes and views in the southern Canadian Rockies.
