Take the Cultural Canvas Public Art Tour
Outdoor art shines especially bright in the summer sun. This month, why not go some check out for yourself? Lethbridge currently features around 75 public art installations, each with their own unique meaning. Find 3D sculptures on main roads or hidden murals down downtown alleys. With diverse artists, these installations tell the story of Lethbridge's multicultural community.

Join in on Downtown Events
Lethbridge's public plaza—aptly named Festival Square—is home to many events, markets, and festivals throughout the summer. Check out weekly Farmer's Markets on Wednesday mornings, a Pancake Breakfast on August 18th, and occasional cultural celebrations throughout the month. If live music is more your thing, head to the weekly Upside Downtown concerts just a few streets over at Casa. These free concert run from 5:00pm to 7:00pm every Thursday, and feature local and regional musicians. You're sure to have a great time no matter what you choose!

Take Advantage of Public Sporting Equipment
Play a Round of Disc Golf
Lethbridge has four disc golf courses, each offering their own challenges. If you're looking for an outdoor activity that isn't too strenuous, playing a round or two is a must! The Peenaquim Park course offers stunning views, while the Nicholas Sheran Park course is extra long with 18 baskets, making it the longest disc golf course in Canada! If you don't travel with your discs, Backstreet West Pub near Nicholas Sheran Park offers disc golf kit rentals!

Try Out Pickleball or Tennis
If you want something a bit more high energy than disc golf, try out a game of pickleball, tennis, or squash at one of Lethbridge's public courts! If you're playing at the Lethbridge Polytechnic court, phone 403-382-6903 to book a court and rent squash or raquetball equipment. If you're more into Pickleball, Kinsmen Park offers a little more flexibility as the courts are free to use on a first-come-first-serve basis. Pickleball rackets can be rented from Urban Grocer, right across the street from the park!

Explore Local Attractions
Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden
Closing at the end of the month, August is your last chance to see the stunning Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens this summer. This garden provides a tranquil escape to anyone who steps through the gate. And with traditional tea ceremonies and yukata rentals available, it's easy to get an immersive experience. Nikka Yuko is open every week this summer from Thursday—Monday, and if you happen to stop by on a Friday, save room for lunch or dinner at the Food Truck Fridays event happening in the Garden's parking lot every week from 12:00pm–8:00pm!

Fort Whoop-Up
Fort Whoop-Up is a replica fur trading fort, modelled after similar sites built in the 1800s. Here, discover what life was like during the fur trade and the illegal whiskey trade. Fort Whoop-Up is also one of the best places in Lethbridge to learn about indigenous history, as the Fort makes an effort to teach about the Buffalo Robe and the story of the all the peoples who called the Old Man River Valley their home. Open every day, this Lethbridge attraction is well worth the visit!

Birds of Prey Centre
Located just outside of the city in Coaldale, the Birds of Prey Centre is worth the drive. This rescue and rehabilitation facility houses birds of all kinds. Find falcons, hawks, eagles, and even a vulture or two! To add some excitement to your visit, hold an owl or watch one of the centre's hourly flying demonstrations. The Birds of Prey Centre is open everyday until Labour Day weekend, so be sure to visit while you still can!

Open Farm Days
On August 15th and 16th, Open Farm Days gives you the chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at Alberta's agriculture industry. Visit local farms, tour ranches, and enjoy an array of farm-to-table dining. If you're in Lethbridge, visit places like Little Gem Winery to learn about their haskap wines, The Lilac Row to see hundred of beautiful flowers, Farming Smarter for hands-on learning, and many more!

Whoop-Up Days
Perhaps the most anticipated event every year, Whoop-Up Days is returning to Lethbridge from August 18th to 22nd. A parade will kickstart this event at 9:00am on August 18th, with all the carnival festivities beginning at the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre after the parade concludes. Check out headlining artists such as Gord Bamford on the main stage, or the many carnival games and rides throughout the park. The Lethbridge & District Pro Rodeo will take place alongside Whoop-Up Days from August 20th to 22nd. Checking out the festivities is a must this August!
