While you can’t control the weather, you can predict that the 3rd Monday of February is Family Day in Alberta! Created to give people time to spend with their families, we’ve created this list so you and the fam can have some fun in Lethbridge on Family Day!
Things to do in Lethbridge this Family Day weekend
Start off the weekend with some parent time!
The weekend may be for the whole family but Friday night is reserved for the grownups at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery (SAAG). This Friday, February 14, 2020, the SAAG hosts its monthly Craft Beer Friday. Visit the gallery and appreciate the fine art of the brewed kind. Along with frosty beverages, you can also enjoy tasty food, like pizza from Two Guys Pizza, board games and time to explore SAAG’s exhibitions. Your admission includes one beverage or sample flight. Toasting begins at 6 PM.
Enjoy the Great Outdoors!
The weather’s looking good this Saturday, so get outside and enjoy it! Breathing in some fresh air is an easy (and affordable) way to spend time with the family, and get some exercise. Did you know Lethbridge has over 200km of trails just waiting for you and your family to explore? From an easy stroll around Henderson Lake Park, or Nicholas Sheran (with stops at playgrounds on the way), to river valley views of Elizabeth Hall Wetlands, to the “look up, look way way up” bridge views of Indian Battle Park, there is no shortage of areas to explore. Start exploring Lethbridge’s amazing coulees and terrific trails with the City’s interactive map — download it here.
Helen Schuler Nature Centre
While you’re exploring Indian Battle Park, keep strolling north to Helen Schuler Nature Centre. Situated on a 200-acre nature preservation park with scenic views of coulees and cottonwood forests, the Centre offers a walk on the wild side only minutes from downtown. It may be winter but their interpretive trails lead you to more chances to learn about the nature around you. They’re open this Family Day, 11 AM – 4 PM, come inside and experiment with energy in a series of hands-on activity stations.
Enjoy Pancakes at the Galt!
What better way to start off your day off with a free pancake brunch at the Galt Museum! Bring the family down to the Galt Museum Monday, February 17, 2020, to enjoy food, music, crafts, games and of course pancakes! Take time to check out the exhibits and complete a special treasure hunt in the museum! Interested in local historical research and archives? Head downstairs to the Archives for a tour and to learn about more local history research. Museum opens early at 10 am for this
Burn off some energy at the Cor Van Raay YMCA!
Weather not cooperating? Prefer water slides to slippery trails? Be active indoors at the Cor Van Raay YMCA at ATB Centre. With a fitness centre, child care facility, a lane pool, leisure pool, waterslide, running track, gymnasiums and so much more there is something for the whole family!
Some of the City of Lethbridge public pools and ice arenas will be open. Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik Pools will be open Family Day, Feb. 18: Open Swim from 1–4 PM., and Lane Swim from 4–5 PM. Free Public Skating is offered at Nicholas Sheran Arena from 12:45–2:45 PM.
