University of Lethbridge Pronghorns
The Pronghorns have been the premier athletic association at the University of Lethbridge since the the late 60s when the university first opened. Since then, they have competed in many championships across Canada and have fostered strong community relationships. Many of the athletes that were a part of the Pronghorns have gone on to national teams and olympic level athletics!

Highlights & Achievements:
- The Women’s Rugby team has been one of the most successful programs:
- Three consecutive national championships (2007, 2008, 2009).
- The Men’s Basketball team reached the Canada West final four on multiple occasions and has seen growth in regional competitiveness.
- Several Pronghorns athletes have gone on to compete nationally and internationally, including in Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Community and Legacy:
- The Pronghorns are known for fostering strong community ties in southern Alberta, including youth camps, school outreach, and events.
- Their mascot, the Pronghorn, is a recognized symbol around campus and Lethbridge.
- Despite budget challenges (which led to the 2020 cut of the men’s and women’s hockey programs), the university continues to invest in student-athletes and the broader sports culture.
The Pronghorns continue to be a proud part of the University of Lethbridge identity, with a focus on academic-athletic balance, community engagement, and competitive excellence.
