The Fort Museum
The Fort Museum brings to life the story of Canada’s early law enforcement and indigenous communities. Comprised of eight reconstructed and original buildings, it houses over 11,000 artifacts—including two of the town’s oldest restored structures—and archives tracing the fort’s evolution since 1874. Through engaging exhibits and hands-on programs, visitors gain insight into the North West Mounted Police’s role in settlement, the relationship with First Nations, and the development of Western Canada.
Highlights include the nationally unique NWMP Musical Ride performances each summer, offering a glimpse into cavalry drills, lance maneuvers, and the cavalry’s ceremonial traditions. The “Groom‑a‑Horse” program lets guests connect directly with the mounted heritage. With educational tours, interactive storytelling, and guided exploration, the museum delivers an immersive, family-friendly experience. Free parking and wheelchair access make it a welcoming destination.
